Unique Uses for Chests in the Bedroom

Date:

Bedroom storage is usually an afterthought when you’re completing the design. Most of the focus is on the bed and how plush or firm the mattress should be. Of course, you want a high level of comfortability in the space as it’s where you retreat after a hard day. However, if the room is disorganized, you will not find it to be a place you can rest easy.

That’s why the storage you choose is so important. You want to be able to move around the room unencumbered while having sufficient storage for your things. One way to accomplish that is to add a chest to the room. It gives your items a dedicated space and keeps them neatly tucked away.

You first have to decide where to place the chest and then take measurements to know what dimension to look for. If the bedroom is small, a tall narrow chest that fits into a corner won’t use up much floor space. For bigger bedrooms, a standard-sized chest will get the job done.

The size should also be proportional to the space. If you have high ceilings in the bedroom, a tall chest would be more appropriate than a shorter one. But if the ceilings are low, a tall chest could leave the room feeling unbalanced.

Once you’ve settled on a chest size, it’s time to determine how you’ll use it. There are many uses for chests in your bedroom. It’s always important to have your furniture serve multiple purposes, and although you may not see a chest in this light, you should.

For instance, small chests with two or three drawers make excellent bedside tables. You get the storage you need and additional surface space for lamps, eyeglasses, bottles of water, or anything else you keep close when in bed. If you enjoy reading before turning in for the night you can place books or magazines in the drawers for easy access.

Media chests are the perfect multi-purpose piece. They come at the right height for viewing tv from your bed. There’s an open shelf where cable boxes and streaming devices sit as their wires remain out of sight. Keep clothing in the chest drawers, or use them to store phone chargers, power surges, and other small electronics.

Style the chest by using the surface for decorations. Plants, framed photos, souvenirs from trips and other trinkets you hold dear can be displayed on the chest. It’s a great way to add your personal style to the bedroom.

Chests are also great in children’s rooms. Be sure they are anchored to the wall securely to avoid any accidents. Because children’s clothing is small, you usually only need one chest for their wardrobe. Keep toys or tools for their arts and crafts projects in the lower drawers for the kids to access without your help.

Depending on your lifestyle, there are many different ways a chest can enhance your day-to-day living. Choose one that fits your style and functional needs.
