The Act is relatively new, and not every person knows how to create the GST invoices as per the GST bill format or how to take GST registrations, file GST returns, or make GST payments online. SO, here we have assembled a small guide to assist people in doing all of this so that they can make the best use of the convenience offered by the Act.

How to Take GST Registration Online?

This is a very simple procedure that is required to be completed in two parts. First, you have to take up a temporary reference number to make an initial application for starting up the process of registration. After this, you can proceed to the completion of the process by generating your application reference number, which is a confirmation of your registration. Here is a step by step guide for the complete procedure.

Step 1: First of all, you need to log in to the GST online portal with your user account. In case you do not have a user account, first create it and then you can proceed with the further steps.

Step 2: Upon logging into the user account, go on the “Services” tab on your dashboard, navigate to “Registration,” and then click on “New Registration.”

Step 3: you shall see a registration form on your screen. Fill in all the details in the form and make sure that they are factual and true.

Step 4: After filling in the details, click on the “Proceed” button. This will send you a verification code on your registered mobile number.

Step 5: Enter this verification code to generate your Temporary Reference Number so that you can proceed to part B of the registration process.

Step 6: Now, upload all your necessary documents in the form and authenticate it with your digital signature through the emsigner for GST.

Step 7: Click on the “Save and Proceed” button. This will generate your Application Reference Number, which shall be a confirmation for your registration.

After this, you can download your GST certificate from the portal. This certificate will contain your GST identification number and other important details and an annexure mentioning any additional places of business you have.

Upon this registration, you become authorized to collect GST on your transactions. You also subsequently need to make payment of this collected GST to the account of the Government. And this is how you can do it.

How to Make GST Payment Online?

For this as well, you will first need to log in to the GST online portal. After that, you can follow the following steps to make your GST payment online.

Step 1: Go to the “Services” tab and then click on the “Payments” option. This will open a challan on your screen.

Step 2: Fill all the details in this challan carefully. 

Step 3: Now, select your preferred payment method from the available options. You can make an e-payment, pay over the counter, or pay through NEFT/RTGS.

If you select the e-payment option, the payment will be made immediately. However, for the other two options, only a receipt shall be generated, and then you will have to follow the further offline steps to make the payment. 

Step 4: Click on “Proceed” after selecting your preferred payment method. You will see a summary challan before you. Double-check this summary challan and then click on the “Make Payment” option.

Your GST payment shall be completed. In case you had selected a payment option other than e-payment, you need to proceed further with the offline steps. Take the generated receipt. You can go to the GST office if you had selected the Over the Counter payment option. If you had selected the NEFT/RTGS option, you can make a direct bank account transfer online or go to your bank for the payment.

Although these two options make the process a little lengthy, they are still more convenient than going through the complete procedure through the offline mode.
