Common Issues Women Face in the Workplace

Date:

More and more people are becoming aware of the importance of men and women having equal rights both inside and outside of the workplace. Despite the progress that has been made in society over recent years, women still face many issues in the workplace.

Here are some common issues that women face whilst at work.

  1. Equal Pay

Unfortunately, there is still a pay gap between men and women. On average, women will need to more 70 days more than men to achieve the same earnings, even if they are just as qualified and experienced.

  • Career Opportunities

Many women feel like they don’t have access to the same opportunities as men. Even those who have been working in their companies for years and have demonstrated tremendous talent can feel oppressed, with some employers still seeing men as better at their jobs than women.

  • Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment can happen to anybody, but statistics show that women experience it more than men whilst at work. Inappropriate sexual advances or comments can cause women to feel uncomfortable at work, increasing their absence, reducing their productivity, and possibly forcing them to leave their jobs. Many women resort to searching for ‘sexual harassment lawyer near me’ to take legal action against the perpetrators and gain compensation for everything they have been through.

  • Work-life Balance

Work-life balance is difficult for everybody, particularly those who have children or those who regularly work overtime. Women often feel like maintaining a good work-life balance is one of the most difficult aspects to having a successful career.

  • Child Care

A large number of women feel that they are unable to have a child if they want to succeed in their careers. Childcare can be expensive and difficult to arrange, making it almost impossible for many new mums to navigate.

  • Race and Gender Bias

Even in 2021, women still experience discrimination based on their race or gender. Although many companies are moving towards making positive changes when it comes to race and gender equality, these biases are still prevalent issues in the workplace.

Women of colour have additional barriers to overcome if they want to achieve high levels of success in their careers and they often have to deal with other people’s prejudice against them.

  • Imposter Syndrome

Women can feel like they don’t deserve to be in the career they’re in, or they struggle to accept their achievements at work. This is known as Imposter Syndrome, and it can be a huge issue for women in any role or position.

Imposter Syndrome can also prevent women from applying to jobs. They might feel that their skills don’t match those of the job description, which prevents them from applying to the role. By more women becoming aware of Imposter Syndrome, they can start appreciating their achievements and reaching their full potential in the workplace.
