Why Hair Loss Occurs In Men

Date:

It can be a common occurrence for many men of a certain age that everytime they look in the mirror at themselves that more and more of their hairline has receded back on itself. Greater than half of men that are over the age of 50 experience some signs of losing their hair. By the age of 70 years old, 4 out of every 5 men then have some hair loss.

The main reason as to why this occurs comes down to what you inherited from your family. However, there are a number of other reasons as to why hair loss occurs. We will take a look at each of these in detail below.

Family Genetics

Sometimes referred to as androgenetic alopecia or male pattern baldness comes as a result of the genes that were passed on to you by your parents. Although how these are inherited is not quite clear, although it has been shown to run in a family’s history. This means that if you have members of your family, such as your dad and / or brother, who have gone bald early, then it is highly likely that the same will happen to you as well.

Scientists are unsure as to exactly why changes in your hormones cause hair follicles to shrink down or why the process of balding happens in roughly the same spots for the vast majority of men. However, the process does typically start with your hair thinning slightly on the crown and around when your temples are.

Medical Reasons

Your hair thinning and fall out can, for some people, be a sign that you are suffering from some sort of medical issue, such as problems with your thyroid or anemia. Similarly, an iron or protein low diet may also be what is causing your hair to go thin. If you suffer from conditions such as lupus or diabetes, then hair loss may also be a problem.

The use of specific drugs to treat ailments such as gout, cancer, heart problems, arthritis, high blood pressure, and depression can also cause some people to lose their hair. Similarly, chemotherapy and radiation treatment are also responsible for hair loss across the entire body (not just the head). However, once you stop partaking in these treatments, all of your hair should grow back as before.

Infections

The likes of ringworm can be responsible for producing scaly spots and bald patches on your head. However, after successful treatment for the infection, the spots usually go aways and any hair lost grows back quite quickly.

Shock / Stress

Extreme levels of weight loss that come quickly and suddenly or even a deep emotional shock can bring about hair loss that can last up to several months in time. The flu, a fever, and surgery are all things that are also responsible for making some men lose their hair also.

Although there are many different reasons as to why hair loss may occur, you should not worry as there are equally lots of treatments to bring it back. Go to this site to view the full range of these.
