Essay Ahead of Its Time: The Architecture of the Future
New building techniques and bright imaginations are pushing the boundaries of architectural design.Architecture and its creators respond to the changes of socio-cultural context and look for the ways to make a dialogue between a person, the environment, the nature, and the buildings.Because I am an academic, I have to make some history for you, so sorry about this. But you do not have to take notes, and this is not an exam paperer dissertation (in case you will need a hand with the last one, we know where high-quality yet cheap dissertations are written).
So, here is what the future of architecture will look like.
Beautifully designed bridges, skyscrapers completing a 360-degree rotation every 90 minutes, indoor parks, wooden skyscrapers, and bricks made of mushrooms. It is not a full list of future advances of the architecture. How do architects see future cities? What will change fundamentally?
Ultimate Eco-Building
Locally sourced, sustainable materials are on the rise. Emphasizing the issue of respect for the environment, modern architects see future architecture as a possibility to create eco-friendly cities. Forms, which will be taken from nature and fragile materials, are in their vision. Buildings will be equipped with three types of sources of renewable energy, filtration, and heating water.
Architects will design a billion-dollar apartment complex complete with wind turbines, solar panels, and even orchards. Egypt was actually the leading country of this design, hoping to put their desert and wind storms to the proper use. Such complex will feature approximately 1,000 apartments and will run on entirely green energy that won’t produce any pollutants. To keep cool in the city, the building will rely on a geothermal cooling system. The wind catcher will also allow cool air to regulate the building’s temperature. The main reason why some cities get so hot is from the absorption of solar radiation by roads and buildings. Green walls covered by orchards will reduce the absorption and grow on recycled water.
Moreover, such a building will be able to turn agricultural products into methane, which will then generate energy. A healthy ecosystem of earthworms, beetles, and bees will oxygenate the soil and keep it fertile.
Skyscraper as a Living Organism
How would you feel about actually living in the clouds?
Twice the size of the world’s tallest building the Burj Khalifa, the future skyscrapers will soar 5,500 feet into the sky. The Sky Mile Tower will be able to house 50,000 people and will contain gyms and health clinics. This will be the centerpiece of the futuristic city, which is also supposed to be dedicated to combating climate change and pollution. This mega structure will be built with strong wind-resistant material and look to the Pacific Ocean.
But the most important advantage is that such mile-high buildings will remain the living organism with a unity of management. The base of the structure is a framework, around which will be designed a residential zone -operational space for producing essential foodstuffs. The skyscraper is incapable of reforming itself depending on climate changes, time of the day, and occupancy.
The Seascraper
The architecture of the future is not only skyscrapers but also seascrapers, floating towns, and giant Noah’s Arks. Two ominous signs in our environment compel us to think about floating settlements. First of all, it is overpopulation. Second of all, a rise in a sea level due to global warming. Architects are aimed to create houses atop of the floating platforms. It will be settlements on the triangular modules up to 5 kilometers across. On the human-made land, there will be designed housing, industrial zones, and power stations, working from the sun, wind, waves, and tides.
The idea of the seascraper is not the new one. The surface of the building will be a solid solar panel. The architects of the seascaper are going to receive electricity from upwelling and the sun. The architecture of the underwater part of the structure is similar to the construction of a coral reef that hosts the marine life and attracts fish. Moreover, a vast bowl-shaped cavity will allow collecting rainwater.
The City Farm
The 20th-century models of the “garden city” have been utopian. High building density beats green suburbs. But the architects hope to combine city and village in the future. French office SOA Architectures elaborates on the concept of city farms. Moreover, they are encouraged to do vertical farms to save the place. It is produced in the immediate area to the customers, and cities receive additional sources of oxygen.
