Workplace lighting systems contribute fundamentally towards employees’  productivity. Happy and comfortable employees are more productive than fatigues and uncomfortable workers.

The type of lighting commonly utilized in workplaces are often artificial lighting systems. Artificial lights can be very harsh to the work environment. There is a need to put into consideration one’s lighting technologies as they can cause a great difference for not only your well being, but also your productivity.

Lighting is vital for the enhancement of one’s mood, level of productivity, plus health. The following comprises some of the ways through which lighting technologies can better life.

1.       Turn Down Overhead Lights

The amount of light required in an office setting is clearly stipulated by OSHA. However, some workplaces have too much lighting that can be equated to double the required amount.

Human eyes are not endowed with the ability of ascertaining the quantity of lights. That is because we observe light depending on how many different forms of lights contrast. This means that comparison is utilized in differentiating various types of light.

For instance, two different places such as inside the office may appear to have varying levels of brightness, but in essence, the lighting system in the two points have equal brightness.

Moreover, most individuals tend to think the bigger, the better, as they consider bigger lighting systems to produce more light than the smaller lighting systems. Others even equate more light to better understanding of the world.

However, humans must realize that too much light is harmful to the eyes. Exposure to very bright lights, which are not regulated, can even result in blindness.

2.       Go for More Flexible Lighting

The quantity of lighting required varies from person to person. It is also dependent on the task that an individual is handling. For example, the amount of lighting an individual working on physical objects differs from that required by the individual operating on numerous computers.

Hence, it is best that you obtain a flexible lighting system that you can adjust according to your lighting preferences. With flexible lighting systems you can dim any overhead lights if you feel they are too  bright for your liking.

Also, flexible lighting systems give individual lights plus bulbs, which can be switched on or off depending on an individual’s liking or job at hand. In addition to enhancing your mood, productivity and well being, flexible lighting helps in electricity saving.

3.       Utilize OLED Lighting

The organic light emitting diode (OLED) is utilized in the creation of flat-panel lights. This light is thought to be favourable to our eyes compared to the traditional light bulbs.

Hence, the utilization of OLED lights for lighting is more preferred to the conventional lighting systems because it facilitates the enhancement of one’s moods and improves health.

4.       Minimize Blue Light

The most common lighting systems utilized in office settings are the fluorescent plus LED lights. Blue light is vital for enhancing one’s mood plus attention especially during morning plus early afternoons. However, blue light can be disadvantageous especially when exposed for longer periods.

An extended period of exposure to blue lights results in a disrupted sleep cycle. Hence, it is important that you minimize your exposure to blue lights by finding lighting alternatives that generate minimal blue lights.

Computers and laptops also generate blue lights. Hence, you may want to consider adorning glasses that can block blue lights. Moreover, you can try installing a blue light blocking application into your smartphone when going to sleep. All these will aid in protecting your eye site and improving your sleeping patterns.

5.       Utilize as Much Natural Lighting as Possible

Natural light is the best. Employers should find ways for facilitating natural light into the workplaces. Natural light is healthy and cannot be compared to artificial lights.

Conclusion

Light is not just light. You must learn to differentiate between harsh and favourable lighting for the betterment of your mood, productivity plus health. You should minimize exposure to blue light, use more natural light as possible, turn off overhead lights and always opt for the flexible lighting, in order to achieve great moods, and improved well being plus productivity.
